High Energy Electrons at Low Latitudes: Is Their Connection with Thunderstorms Possible?
نویسندگان
چکیده
This work is dedicated to a study of near-equatorial electron distribution in the ionosphere under the radiation belts. Sporadic 100 keV electron splashes have been registered at near-equatorial latitudes. The longitudinal dependence has been found in the distribution of these splashes. The results have been compared with satellite data of thunderstorms registration, through this it was found that the areas of electron registering coincide morphologically with near-equatorial atmospheric systems. It is discussed that lightning charges could be one of causes of such electrons. The lithospheric-ionospheric coupling could be an extra source of energetic electrons near the equator.

Microdosimetry study of a multicellular model with mono-energetic electrons using Geant4-DNA simulation toolkit
Introduction: The goal of any type of radiation therapy in the treatment of tumors, in addition to destroying cancer cells, is to minimizing radiation to nearby healthy cells and thus reducing side damages. For this purpose, targeted radiation therapy (TRT) is more effective in treating of single cells or small cluster of cells. The main factor in the success of this method is...
متن کاملCalculation and evaluation of energy deposition and S-value caused by low-energy electrons in a multicellular model using Geant4-DNA
Today, targeted radiation therapy (TRT) methods for cancer treatment, besides the goal of completely destroying the target tumor, attempts to prevent nearby healthy cells from exposure to ionizing radiation as far as possible. Hence, short-range charged particles, such as low-energy electrons that are suited to achieving these two goals together, play an important role in TRT and so, adoption o...

Thunderstorms are among the first meteorological phenomena, which have attracted human attention. Thunderstorms with rain showers and storms accompanied by hail and their role in causing sudden floods, both in terms of agriculture and human and financial losses, have been noticed by researchers. Rain hail of bullets or pieces of ice ascends very high in elevation due to the weather conditions a...
متن کاملJovian, Solar, and other Possible Sources of Radiation Belt Particles
It is well known that electrons, protons, and heavier ions can be accelerated to high energies (~1 MeV) throughout the solar system by a variety of mechanisms. We review several of the sources of energetic ions and electrons that can produce enhanced fluxes of particles near the Earth's orbit. Solar energetic particles and particles accelerated at interplanetary shock waves are considered. We a...
متن کاملEffect of Lightning on Ionospheric Temperatures
ABSTRACT: It has been realized in recent years that the ionospheric temperature and ion density may be influenced by lightning. The ionospheric ion densities (O, O2 , H and He) and electron and ion temperatures were measured by the RPA payload aboard the Indian SROSS-C2 satellite. The data at low latitudes falling in the Indian subcontinent in the height range 425 – 625 km for the period 1995–1...
